Leeds United learn Leo Scienza price as Southampton release clause emerges

Leeds United have learned how much they will have to pay to sign summer target Leo Scienza.

The Southampton winger has lit up the Championship so far this season, with seven goals and eight assists for Tonda Eckert’s side.

That has put Daniel Farke and other Premier League managers on alert, with a summer St Mary’s exit looking likely.

A report from RTI Esporte on 13 April claims that the Brazilian has a £25million release clause in his deal with the Saints.

Leeds may well view that as a bargain, but they are not the only side in contention for his signature.

Which Premier League clubs will rival Leeds for Scienza signing?

Leeds could do with another winger like Scienza, as the likes of Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto have struggled in the top-flight.

However, they are not alone in their pursuit of the 27-year-old, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Everton and Fulham also want to sign him.

It may come down to the kind of wage packet that is offered to the player, with the report stating that he is currently on £100,000-per-month, which works out at £25,000-per week.

That seems affordable for the Whites, but their rivals may be able to offer more and gazump them.

Leeds should go all out for ‘outstanding’ Scienza

Leeds may want to push the boat out to sign the former FC Heidenheim man, as he has previously been described as “outstanding.”

Coventry manager Frank Lampard gave him that label, despite the Brazilian failing to score against his Sky Blues side when they met in December.

Speaking after the contest, he said: “I thought we dealt with him really well.

“He was a big threat the whole game because he can slip out of the way.

“He can come inside and shoot, he’s an outstanding player in his league.”

Leeds supporters may not like Lampard, after their public spat over the Spygate controversy, when he was managing Derby County, but it cannot be denied that he has an eye for talent.

If they can beat their competitors for his signature at the £25m price point, it would be a bargain for a player of his level, who could take the top-tier by storm.

If the release clause is true, and the Peacocks get an indication that he would be keen on joining, they should pull the trigger.
