Leeds United could potentially see Premier League rivals make a move for Gabriel Gudmundsson in the upcoming transfer window.

That’s what former Whites defender Stephen Warnock feels, with the left-back expected to attract interest from within the English top flight in the summer.

The ex-England international has warned the West Yorkshire outfit to expect teams in the league looking to poach the Swedish star from them in the coming weeks.

Daniel Farke’s team have confirmed their Premier League safety this season and will be looking to make further progress in the upcoming campaign.

Gudmundsson has been key at Elland Road, but the former LOSC Lille defender may have other options on the table sooner rather than later.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post on 13 May, Warnock said, “It’s difficult to place him [among the best left-backs] in the Premier League because he’s a wing-back. I think he’s suited to that role more so than anything, but I do think there will be clubs looking at him in the Premier League, thinking ‘yeah’. He’d certainly be one that teams would look to poach.”

Gudmundsson will likely feature for Sweden at the 2026 World Cup, barring anything unforeseen happening between now and the end of the season.

Graham Potter’s team barely qualified for the summer tournament after a poor qualifying campaign, but will certainly look to cause an upset in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

If the left-back performs well at the international stage, more top teams will certainly consider enticing him away from Elland Road.

The Whites will undoubtedly wish the defender well, but deep down, they may also want him not to attract too much attention during the transfer window.

Gabriel Gudmundsson priority clear at Elland Road

Leeds lack any sort of depth in the backline to allow someone like Gudmundsson to leave in the coming months.

Sam Byram’s contract at Elland Road expires at the end of the season and it would be surprising to see him extend his stay.

James Justin has often deputised at left-back in the absence of the former Lille ace, but the Whites undoubtedly need a backup for him.

Instead of thinking about cashing in on Gudmundsson, the West Yorkshire outfit’s focus should be on reinforcing the position with a fresh face in the summer.
