Leeds United set example for Premier League step up as 27-year first complete after Tottenham

Leeds United have emerged as one of the most successful newly-promoted sides in the Premier League since the 1998-1999 campaign following a draw with Tottenham.

The Whites took a point back to Elland Road after a 1-1 draw with Spurs, which was a good result considering the Lilywhites’ recent form.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side is now batting head-on with West Ham, as both sides are the only two teams left in the relegation battle, following results around them recently.

Leeds’ survival was confirmed when West Ham failed to pick up a result against Arsenal on Sunday, but Daniel Farke‘s side haven’t lain down.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty was enough to ensure that the Whites remained unbeaten in seven games, which has edged their names in the Premier League history books.

Leeds record Premier League first since Middlesbrough in 1998-1999

Farke had many positives from the draw, and still managed to pick up a result despite some clear experiments.

The Whites started the likes of Dan James, while Sebastiaan Bornauw and Wilfried Gnonto also got some valuable minutes.

Leeds’ last seven

Following on from the draw against Tottenham, the Whites’ unbeaten run has been extended to seven games in the league.

This is the second time that Leeds have been on a run of seven games without defeat in the Premier League this season, and according to LUFCDATA on X, it’s been a while since a newly-promoted side did that.

As seen above, it’s the first time that a newly-promoted side recorded two runs of seven games or more without defeat in the Premier League since Middlesbrough back in the 1998-1999 campaign.

That’s 27 years, and it highlights just how good of a job Farke has done.

Why Daniel Farke won’t get complacent in last two games

There have been two occasions in the last 12 months where Farke has looked likely to lose his job. Once last summer, after getting the Whites promoted, and then in the winter, before he changed the system to a winning one.

While it would be completely mad, the 49ers may still have some lingering doubts about the German head coach.

There have been whispers of contract talks, and Farke will want some security, and two more strong performances will only helps his case.

The Leeds boss can clearly balance some tests with grabbing results too, as it would be no surprise to see a very strong end to the season, results-wise.
