Gus Hamer looks set to leave Sheffield United this summer with Leeds United in the mix for his signature.

The Blades have failed in their attempts at returning to the Premier League since going down in 2023-2024.

Last season, they fell at the final hurdle as they lost to Sunderland in the play-off final, and this campaign, they have been nothing more than a mid-table outfit.

Leeds now look set to benefit from their failure to get promoted, as it looks like Hamer is all but confirmed to leave the Yorkshire outfit.

Ahead of Leeds’ summer window, Hamer could be signed for a discounted price with Elland Road touted as a possible destination.

Daniel Farke has been tracking Hamer for quite some time, with interest remaining from Leeds’ time in the Championship.

The Whites could now be set for another bite at signing him, with Sheffield United reportedly resigned to losing their playmaker.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Hamer is “set to be sold” as a result of the Blades failing to secure promotion to the top flight.

Among the interested parties is Leeds, who was previously looking to secure a deal for the midfielder.

Nixon suggests a cut-price deal could be on the cards, stating the chances of “a big money exit may be less for him”.

Hamer was reportedly available for £6million in January, and if the price has been further discounted, it could represent one of the biggest bargains of the window.

Although Sheffield United finished in 20th in 2023-2024, Hamer stood out among the players in their squad, contributing to 10 goals throughout the season.

If Hamer is on the move, Leeds must position themselves to finally land their long-term target. The Brazilian-born midfielder has proven himself as a consistent playmaker throughout the years.

If a deal below £6m is on the cards, that must simply be one of the first moves made by the Whites this summer.

In the last three seasons, Hamer has averaged eight league assists per campaign. At Elland Road this season, the highest total reached is currently five in Brendan Aaronson.

As Leeds look to kick on and avoid another relegation scrap next season, adding players who solve issues such as creativity will be key.
