Micah Richards disappointed with Leeds United vs Chelsea despite Daniel Farke heroics

Micah Richards expected more from Leeds United against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The former Manchester City defender was disappointed by the Whites’ performances as they were knocked out of the competition by the Blues at Wembley on 26 April.

It was a narrow 1-0 victory for the London club in the end, as the West Yorkshire outfit rue missed opportunities.

Richards gave Daniel Farke props for leading the West Yorkshire outfit to Wembley and almost securing Premier League survival, but they left more to be desired on the day against Chelsea.

Burnley travel to Elland Road next on 1 May and the Peacocks can take one step closer to their main goal in the current campaign — avoiding relegation.

Leeds United risk collapse after loss vs Chelsea

Speaking on The Rest Is Football on 27 April, Richards said, “To get to Wembley and look like they’re going to be safe, [Farke] has done a brilliant job. But I thought Leeds were going to give me a little bit more.

“I think they were overrun in the midfield a bit. The sort of two against three in the midfield didn’t really work. They had a go in the second half. But Leeds’ record at Wembley recently is not great at all. So, in terms of Leeds, they can hold their heads high, but I wanted a bit more.”

Leeds can’t let the loss against Chelsea affect how they end the season in the Premier League.

Stats from Leeds’ loss to Chelsea, as per Sofascore

At a time when West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are picking up valuable points towards the bottom of the table, the Whites must ensure the Wembley setback is quickly forgotten.

Fans in LS11 now have the responsibility to back their team in the final stretch and get them over the line to survival.

Three points at Elland Road against Burnley will undoubtedly go a long way in helping the West Yorkshire outfit maintain their top-flight status and bolstering their squad in the summer.

Daniel Farke has obvious concern at Elland Road

Leeds’ attackers have chosen the wrong time to misfire, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring just once in his last eight Premier League matches.

While the England international has used his physicality to good effect in recent matches, he once again missed a big opportunity to score against Chelsea.

Goals have also dried up for Lukas Nmecha of late, although Noah Okafor has stepped up to the plate when needed the most.

Farke must figure out a way to grind out wins in the last four games of the season and then figure out a solution to the West Yorkshire outfit’s goalscoring troubles in the summer.
