Man United vs Leeds unseen moments: Jim Ratcliffe not happy, home fans disgrace themselves

Manchester United fans let their anger known throughout as Leeds United stunned Old Trafford with a 2-1 win on Monday night.

Noah Okafor scored twice in the first half and Leeds arguably could have had double that tally before the interval.

Daniel Farke‘s men then saw their night get even better when Lisandro Martinez was sent off early in the second half for pulling on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair.

Casemiro may have pulled one back for Man United, making the home fans slightly less tetchy, but the visitors saw out a rare win on enemy territory.

MOT Leeds News rounds up some moments you may not have seen from the Whites’ famous away win at Old Trafford.

Jim Ratcliffe among unhappy home hordes

Old Trafford was not a happy place to be, especially in the opening half an hour when Leeds were completely dominating proceedings.

As pointed out on Manchester Evening News’ live blog Man United shareholder Jim Ratcliffe was among those who was clearly unhappy at what was playing out.

Ratcliffe had his arms crossed in the directors’ box, clearly wondering what he has invested a lot of his money into.

That came around the time that Matheus Cunha was rightly booked by the referee for a dive, with the home side trying every last trick to wrestle back some control of the game.

Man United fans let themselves down with chant

Manchester United and Leeds United fans do not like each other. That does not really need saying, of course, but it means that some strong chants can be expected both ways.

There is a clear line, though. And not for the first time of late, opposition fans decided to turn to the ‘Jimmy Savile’ chants in an attempt to rile the Leeds supporters.

Leeds recently lobbied the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to treat the chants referencing Savile – who had connections to Leeds – as “tragedy chanting”, and by extension a hate crime.

Yet chants from the home end referencing Savile could be heard in the first half, with too many failing to get the message.

Daniel Farke with some smart management advice

Martinez’s red card actually spurred Man United, with the home side pulling one back through Casemiro’s header from a Bruno Fernandes cross.

Farke wisely changed things up as he brought on Ilia Gruev and Wilfried Gnonto for Okafor and Tanaka, providing some fresh legs in midfield and attack.

And as pointed out by Leeds Live’s Isaac Johnson on X, Farke could be seen signalling to Gruev to calm things down when introduced.

The message was pretty clear. The changes were intended to not just freshen up Leeds but also give them a chance to take the sting out of the contest.

Given the Whites saw out the win, even if it was stressful, it is fair to say it was mission achieved.
