Leeds United: Three players Daniel Farke could now hand minutes to with nothing left to play for

Leeds United now have nothing to play for in the Premier League following their 1-1 draw against Tottenham.

After West Ham’s loss to Arsenal, the Whites’ Premier League status was confirmed, but there was still an outside chance of Europe for Daniel Farke’s side.

However, after failing to beat Tottenham, the Elland Road outfit can only finish as high as ninth place, a position that will not offer European football.

With little to play for, Farke could turn to the fringes of his squad or the youth of Thorp Arch for the remaining two fixtures.

Here are the players who could end Leeds’ season with minutes, after struggling to get game time throughout the campaign.

Joel Piroe to be put in Leeds’ shop window

Joel Piroe has every chance to leave Leeds in the summer transfer window, and the final games of the season could be used to attempt to boost his prospects and price tag.

The striker, who was ever so important in the Championship, has not been trusted to provide a similar impact in the Premier League.

In a way, Farke was right to go down that path, with summer arrivals Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin proving to be difference makers.

However, with the season ticking down and Piroe making just a few appearances, now could be the time to try to increase his price with minutes at the end of the season.

It is worth a go with Farke having nothing to lose now.

Sam Byram to wave Elland Road goodbye

Sam Byram’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and after seven years in the Leeds academy from 2005 to 2012 and seven years of service across two separate professional spells, it would not be a shock to see him get a chance to wave goodbye.

The fullback is one of the Whites’ own, having been at the club since his early teenage years. This season, he has barely featured, making just one Premier League appearance.

Farke allowing him to get a send-off at Elland Road would be a kind gesture, and with Leeds having nothing to play for, there is no risk attached at all.

Jayden Lienou to make Leeds debut

18-year-old academy defender Jayden Lienou could end the season with first-team minutes for Leeds United.

The Welsh left-back was named on the bench for the Whites against Tottenham but was not thrust into the action just yet.

However, his appearance among the substitutes makes it evident he has impressed Farke with his training, and that could be enough to make his debut before the season ends.

Doubts are still swirling around the fitness of Gabriel Gudmundsson, and if he is out injured for Leeds’ next fixture, it would not be a surprise to see Lienou make the squad again.

If he does, there is every chance that Farke opts to utilise him, especially with Lienou impressing at youth level.
