Leeds United: James Justin’s Thorp Arch insight will be music to Tottenham’s ears

Leeds United defender James Justin insists his side have no intention of taking their foot off the gas when they face West Ham United on the final day.

The Whites are assured of safety heading into their trip to the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as has been the case for a couple of weeks now.

Leeds can still finish anywhere between 11th and 15th in the Premier League, meaning multiple millions are on the line in prize money.

The bigger picture, though, is that Leeds can have a major say in the Premier League relegation battle this weekend.

And if West Ham were expecting Leeds to take things lightly in East London, they can think again – something that will be music to the ears of Tottenham fans.

Leeds vow made ahead of West Ham showdown

Leeds’ final-day trip to West Ham was circled as a possible relegation shootout not all that long ago.

However, Daniel Farke‘s men have not been in serious threat of relegation for a couple of months now.

But that is not to say Farke will let his players ease off. That was not the case against Tottenham when drawing 1-1 and it was not the case against Brighton when winning 1-0.

Leeds also had little to play for on the face of it for those two matches and yet they turned up and did what was needed.

While Farke has a number of injury issues to contend with, Leeds will still name their strongest line-up against West Ham.

And if anyone was in any doubt about the mindset of the players, Justin has made it clear West Ham will not have an easy time of things.

“We have still been training hard and, obviously, there is a nice vibe about the place,” the 28-year-old told Premier League Productions.

“No matter what situations happen and where, we are always going to try our best to win the game.”

West Ham need to beat Leeds and hope London rivals Tottenham lose to Everton at home in their final match.

Leeds could match 31-year first this weekend

Leeds have been pretty relentless for a while now, having gone eight matches unbeaten in the Premier League.

The ease in which Farke has achieved safety, relatively speaking, makes it all the more surprising he is not in the Manager of the Season discussion.

Should Leeds avoid defeat away at West Ham, which would send the Hammers down regardless of results elsewhere, it would mark the first time since 1995 they have gone nine unbeaten in the competition.

That really would be some way for Leeds to see out what has been a superb first campaign back in the big time.
