Leeds’ stunning side that beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield in 2022 – Where are they now?
Leeds are returning to Anfield for the first time in three years on Thursday, and their last away match against Liverpool was certainly one fans won’t forget.
Back in October 2022, Leeds beat Liverpool 2-1 in a thrilling contest at Anfield, marking their most memorable result of the season as they were relegated from the top flight in May.
Rodrigo gave Jesse Marsch’s side an early lead after Liverpool Joe Gomez’s back pass went astray, before Mohamed Salah swiftly levelled up the score for the hosts with an improvised volley that Illan Meslier was unable to keep out.
However, Crysencio Summerville scored a brilliant 89th-minute winner, taking the ball away from Virgil van Dijk before poking the ball home to give the travelling supporters a night to remember.
Now, with Leeds set to travel to Anfield once again, MOT Leeds News looks back at where the starting XI from the clash is now.
Illan Meslier
Meslier remains at Leeds, although he is now an outcast in Daniel Farke’s side.
The Frenchman lost his place in the starting XI last season after making a series of costly mistakes in their promotion campaign.
He is currently the third-choice goalkeeper behind Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow, and after 216 appearances, his Leeds career has petered out.
Now, Meslier is widely expected to leave Leeds United, with the shot-stopper’s contract up in the summer.
Rasmus Kristensen
Rasmus Kristensen spent one season at Leeds, making 32 appearances under Marsch after joining from RB Salzburg for £10million.
The attacking right-back proved to be a useful addition, and he scored three goals during the 2022-23 campaign.
In July 2023, he was shipped out on loan to Roma, before going having another loan spell, this time with German side Frankfurt.

Kristensen was permanently sold to Frankfurt in April, with Leeds pocketing £5.1m plus add-ons in the deal.
Robin Koch
Robin Koch remained at Leeds for the duration of the relegation campaign before he was loaned out to Frankfurt.
After impressing for the German club, the defender earned a permanent transfer in 2024.
To this day, Koch is still a Frankfurt player, and he helped his side secure Champions League qualification last season.
A valuable centre-back for Leeds, the 29-year-old left the Whites on good terms and is thriving in his home country.
Liam Cooper
Liam Cooper is a modern-day legend at Elland Road, and he left after they failed to win the playoffs in the 2023-24 season under Daniel Farke.
He made 27 appearances for Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia before being released in July.
After months without a club, Cooper moved to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, and scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 loss to Ipswich on 20 December.

The Owls are destined for relegation this season due to their issues off the pitch, and it speaks volumes about Cooper’s character that he would decide to lead that dressing room midway through the season.
Pascal Struijk
Pascal Struijk is one of the few players in this team who are still playing for Leeds.
In fact, Struijk has been fantastic for Leeds this season, and played a huge role in their title-winning campaign in 2024-25.
The Dutch defender has thrived in Farke’s 3-5-2 system, and playing alongside Jaka Bijol and Joe Rodon has allowed him to be more adventurous in possession.
In the 2-1 win over Liverpool, Struijk played at left-back and faced the tough job of marking Salah.
Despite the fact that the Egyptian scored, he was solid in defence throughout the match, and he has gone on to become a brilliant player for Leeds.
Tyler Adams
The USA international was often the unsung hero at Leeds during the 2022-23 campaign.
Tyler Adams has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but he featured in 28 games during his one-year spell at LS11.
Once the Peacocks were relegated, he moved to Bournemouth, but suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for the majority of that season.
In the last 18 months, he has become an integral part of their rise under Andoni Iraola and will play a huge role for the USA as they host the 2026 World Cup.

This season, Adams has scored twice, with one of his goals being a spectacular lob from the centre circle against Sunderland.
Marc Roca
Marc Roca was another player who spent just one year at Elland Road, making the move to West Yorkshire from German giants Bayern Munich.
After featuring in 38 games across all competitions, he moved to Spain to play for Real Betis.
Now entering his third year as a Betis player, he has enjoyed several successful campaigns under former Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini, and was part of the team that lost out to Chelsea in the Europa Conference League final in May.
Roca will go down as one of the forgotten men of that Leeds side, and his time in England won’t be looked back upon as a major success.
Jack Harrison
Jack Harrison still plays for Leeds, although he has become a more polarising figure.
In the previous season, Harrison scored the winning goal against Brentford to keep Leeds up in the top flight, but couldn’t repeat his heroics in 2022-23.
When Leeds were relegated, he swiftly moved to Everton for two years on loan, angering many supporters who weren’t happy with his desire to leave.

At this moment in time, he remains a squad player in the top flight, although Leeds will certainly be looking to move him on in the near future.
Brenden Aaronson
Brenden Aaronson joined Leeds in 2022, yet he has failed to fulfil his full potential, having arrived with great promise from RB Salzburg.
The 25-year-old went out on loan to Union Berlin in 2023-24 and has struggled to get a consistent run in the team.
He was impressive in Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday, providing the assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s equaliser.
A lot more is needed before Aaronson can be regarded as a success in LS11, but he is certainly on the right track under Farke.
Crysencio Summerville
Summerville had his first big moment in a Leeds shirt at Anfield, and there were plenty more to come.
He was incredible in 2023-24, registering 31 goal contributions in all competitions as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion by losing the playoff final 1-0 to Southampton.
As a result, West Ham spent £25m plus add-ons to bring him to East London, where he has been disastrous.
With only one goal in 35 appearances for the Hammers, Summerville would do anything to rediscover his electric form at Elland Road.

The Dutch winger’s time at Leeds may be over, but he will surely look back at his winner against Liverpool as one of the greatest moments of his career.
Rodrigo
In the 2022-23 season, the Spaniard scored 13 league goals, but was unable to do enough to prevent the Peacocks from being relegated.
Rodrigo subsequently left Leeds and joined Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan SC.
He was then loaned out to Al-Gharafa SC in the 2024-25 season, but has since returned to his parent club after failing to make an impact.
Having made 28 appearances for Al-Rayyan SC, he has scored 10 goals and is replicating the clinical form we often saw at Elland Road.
