It's been a real contrasting international break for Leeds United winger Dan James with Wales.

Going away with his country alongside Ethan Ampadu and Jayden Lienou, it was a strange start.

Harry Wilson and Joe Rodon are guarantees for Craig Bellamy, but both have been struck by injury at Elland Road this season.

And now, there could be doubts around James' fitness.

Wales welcomed Denmark to Cardiff on Sunday evening for their final Nations League fixture of the break.

It finished in a 1-0 defeat, but Leeds fans, as well as the Welsh, were left scratching their heads.

What happened to Dan James?

Daniel Farke is a huge fan of the winger, that has been made very clear at the start of this season.

Bellamy, though, may not be as much.

James was left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes on Sunday, despite goal one goal behind and chasing an equaliser.

There aren't many players more equipped to chase a game than James, with the spaces out wide and his speed weapons that not many players can match around the world.

Despite that, Wes Burns, Keiffer Moore and Mark Harris all came on, three attacking players nowhere near the Premier League.

Now, a rest is welcomed by Leeds, but there is another layer to this mystery that could spark injury fears.

With many of his players called up over the break, Farke will start welcoming them back to West Yorkshire from Monday.

So far, there haven't been any injuries, and fingers crossed that continues.

With Arsenal and Manchester United first up back in the Premier League, it won't be an easy return to action for the Whites.

James being an unused substitute could help that, but given he was the man of the match in Wales' win over Norway before this one, how he wasn't used is a mystery.

The winger was everywhere in attack and defence, scoring the first goal and helping carry his nation to a huge three points.

It's no surprise they lost yet again after that, but the fact that James wasn't used at all is simply awful management from Bellamy.

He stated that James wasn't able to start due to short recovery times in this break, but the fact he didn't come on at all means it could be more than that.

Fingers crossed that he can come back somewhat fit after this break, with more questions than answers right now.
