Graham Smyth issues Gelhardt injury update after Leeds United U23s bow

Leeds United are reportedly of the opinion that Joe Gelhardt was taken off from the Under-23s clash against Crystal Palace due to a dead leg.

The 19-year-old was subbed off and pointed to his left thigh, which led many to believe it was a serious concern.

However, if it was a dead leg it's much more innocuous and he will be assessed on Tuesday morning (April 5).

Via his personal Twitter account, Yorkshire Evening Post's Graham Smyth wrote, "Leeds' initial belief is a dead leg. He'll be assessed in the morning."

Relief

Whenever a player gets injured, Leeds fans these days, fear for the worst.

It's been an injury-laden season and played a major role behind Marcelo Bielsa's sacking.

He did not have the luxury of picking any player he wants as there were at least three or four first-team injuries for every game.

When Gelhardt went down and required treatment, things seemed to be heading in that direction again.

Thankfully, it's a knock that should not rule him out of the Watford clash.

Although, we will still be awaiting a fitness update from the club as they will thoroughly examine his situation.

If he's fit, the 19-year-old deserves to be handed a start over Dan James.

The Welshman has struggled playing as a number nine and it's time to unleash Gelhardt and give him a few games as a starter.
