'This is when Man City stars will question their futures after what I experienced at Leeds'

Paul Robinson has used his past experience at Leeds United to predict when Manchester City's players will start to question their futures.

City have been found guilty of all charges related to the Premier League's financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18.

The Citizens continue to deny any wrongdoing and have until Friday to submit an appeal, which they intend to do.

News initially broke last week of City being found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges, with the club said to have arranged "sham contracts" with commercial partners.

While the case is not the same as what happened to Leeds towards the start of the century, the outcome - relegation - could be the same.

Robinson was part of that now infamous era at Elland Road and has explained what City's players will be thinking.

Could Man City players leave en masse?

A case involving Leeds and Everton may well be used when it comes to deciding City's sanction - if the guilty charges verdict are upheld.

In the view of Robinson, it will not be until the outcome of the case is announced - however long that may be - until City's players will really start to question what is next for their own futures.

"I played at Leeds at the time when they went through all the financial trouble and the stuff that went on off the field," he told BBC Sport.

"It's difficult at times, but because it's so fresh and so new today, the players probably won't understand the severity of the statement. They'll go out and perform to a level.

"It won't effect the players because they'll be Manchester City players until told otherwise. They will try to separate off field to on field. When it's impacting your every day life, as it did at Leeds with the salary sacrifice, then it does become an issue.

"Until this is resolved, when the the verdict is announced, only then will City players begin to question if they have a future there."

Some have suggested City could be automatically relegated, or if not hit with a severe financial fine and a points deduction that makes dropping down a division likely.

That would open a can of worms as City's players could potentially then seek legal advice over cancelling their contracts.

Will Leeds benefit financially from Man City case?

Again, while City have been found guilty, that is not the end of the matter just yet.

An appeal will be lodged, that will be reviewed, and only then will things move to the next stage.

Clubs could potentially seek financial compensation if they were impacted by City's alleged cheating over the period of time mentioned.

While Leeds do not have as much of a case as some - Liverpool were pipped to titles, for example - their league position, and the millions that brings with it, was impacted.

For now, Leeds fans will be able to relate to the stress City fans are experiencing as this process plays out.
