Red Bull to help Leeds United pay off transfer fee debt at Elland Road

Red Bull investment at Leeds United will help the club pay off their transfer fee debts across the summer, according to The Times.

The report on 30 May reveals the multi-year agreement is believed to be “one of the most lucrative in EFL history.”

Leeds owe £190m in unpaid transfer fee instalments and looked in a precarious financial position following their failure to secure Premier League promotion.

How will Red Bull’s involvement affect Leeds United in the transfer window?

If the shirt sponsorship and minority investment with Red Bull is as lucrative as has been reported, it could be very good news for Leeds.

Narrowly missing out on an automatic promotion place after finishing third in the Championship behind Ipswich Town and Leicester City, coupled with their 1-0 playoff final defeat against Southampton at Wembley, had left the Whites in a state of poor financial health.

As a result, their negotiating position looked likely to be weakened, with a host of first-team stars needing to be sold to generate the funds necessary to balance the books.

However, this injection of cash could go some way towards stabilising Leeds – meaning the club may be able to hang on to at least some of their prized assets after all, which would significantly increase their chances of winning promotion at the second attempt under head coach Daniel Farke, whose side would likely have secured a top-two finish in another campaign.
