Paraag Marathe reveals how Leeds could make controversial change that will affect fans
Paraag Marathe has discussed how ticket pricing could soon change at Leeds United.
The Whites have aimed a general mix of opinions towards the chairman over the years.
There were certain struggles in the Championship that weren't helped by missing out on promotion.
Things are certainly looking more positive now with Daniel Farke's side having one eye on potential European qualification.
Those hopes have been aided by a top summer window with James Trafford and Tarik Muharemovic coming in.
Any positivity towards Marathe and Co. could soon be dashed, with a potential ticketing change likely to kick up a fuss.
What has Paraag Marathe said about dynamic ticket pricing at Leeds United?
There always has to be something in LS11 to dower the mood somewhat.
An unbeaten start to the season in the Premier League has got fans dreaming of what could be to come.
So of course, Marathe would now take the chance to cause a stir at Elland Road.
The chairman has been speaking at Leaders Week London, a sports industry conference at Stamford Bridge.
He has revealed how he could utilise dynamic pricing to benefit Leeds' finances.
As per CityAM, Marathe said: "There’s probably an opportunity to do it in a way that does increase revenue, but also makes it affordable for your most hardcore fans.
"Off the pitch, something that I’ve been thinking about is pricing tickets in the stadium doing dynamic pricing, similar to how the airline industry does it.
"Not just to make to maximise price, but if there’s a way to truly dynamically price based on your supporters, how frequently they go and how much they transact and interact with the club, we can make it more affordable for those folks or certain seats where it’s a little bit more of a hospitality corporate area."
That may seem like a plus for certain groups of supporters, but that doesn't take away from the problems this system can cause.
Why is dynamic pricing so controversial?
For those who haven't heard of dynamic pricing, iyt is a system where prices change in real time depending on their demand and supply.
It has become a normal practice for certain concerts allowing for massive costs to be placed on tickets for the biggest events.
That is seen as a method for companies to increase their revenues by essentially manipulating potential buyers given that prices could suddenly increase if they don't buy immediately.
The fact that no one knows the exact amount they will pay until they reach the end of the buying process also represents a problem for many.
All that will contribute to worry at Elland Road of how this could seriously impact fans financially.
It's all well and good saying that it will actually benefit regular, matchgoing supporters, but the other side will argue why those who can't turn up in LS11 every week should pay more for the privledge.
It would be such a controversial change and could bring unnecessary negativity to Leeds in what looks set to be a positive era.
