Leeds will need to pay £10m for Lewis O'Brien this summer

Leeds United will need to pay £10million to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O'Brien this summer.

That's according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who reports potential swap deals have been explored too.

It is suggested that the Terriers are holding firm, and would prefer straight cash in any deal between Marcelo Bielsa and Carlos Corberan.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning, Nixon shared the update as the Whites plot a West Yorkshire raid.

"Leeds - will have to go to £10million for Lewis O’Brien," he wrote.

"Huddersfield holding out. Various swaps mentioned. But cash would be better."

Worth it?

O'Brien currently only has one more year left on his contract, and this could be the final chance Huddersfield get to recover some funds.

The Terriers do have the option to extend the deal for another year, but will O'Brien want that with little chance of promotion?

Leeds are back in the market for a midfielder after Conor Gallagher snubbed a loan move to West Yorkshire.

Orta will have had a long list of options, and links with O'Brien are really starting to intensify this week.

O'Brien does tick the boxes - he's young, tenacious, and likely won't expect an immediate starting role, leaving him free to cover the likes of Kalvin Phillips.

That is desperately needed, and for £10million or a little less with some academy players going the other way, we wouldn't complain in this market.

Time will tell, but things could certainly start to gather more pace over the next week or so in West Yorkshire.
