Leeds United will need to pay £1million to sign Oldham defender Benny Couto in the January transfer window.

That's according to journalist Adam Millington, who also reports that any deal would likely include the 18-year-old returning to his current club on loan.

Mike McGrath reported the initial interest from the Whites, who have also been joined by Wolves in their quest.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Millington has shared the latest on any potential deal across the next two weeks.

"Understand Oldham are looking for a fee of around £1 million for Benny Couto," he wrote.

"Plan is for any deal to allow him to be loaned back until the end of the season."

Plan.

Couto is playing regular senior football at Oldham, and that is only going to help his development moving forward.

Leeds are continually strengthening their under-23s squad, so a move for the left-back would make complete sense given the lack of options in that area.

The Whites only have Junior Firpo to call upon in that area between their two main squads, and any problem to him disrupts the team massively.

Victor Orta has been bringing in gems for years now, with each usually costing around this figure with the idea to get that value progressed within years.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on, but fans want first-team signings and that is something that is getting them more agitated by the day.

Couto would be a smart signing, but more has to be done and more movement will be expected within days.
