Leeds United could be handed a promotion boost if Ben Doak is to leave Middlesbrough amid January interest.

Michael Carrick's side currently sit fifth in the Championship and have gone unbeaten in their last five games, which makes them a dark horse for automatic promotion as the season goes on.

One of their star players this campaign has been Liverpool loanee Doak, who has netted two and assisted five at just 19 years old in his first loan move away from Anfield.

This has caught the attention of Premier League clubs, which could prove to be a boost to the Whites' promotion chances.

The Eagles made a £15million bid for the Scotland international, but that offer has been rejected by the Premier League leaders.

If Oliver Glasner and Co. are serious about bringing in Doak, there is every chance that they could further test Liverpool's resolve before the window slams shut.

This could end in the Riverside loanee moving to South London, which would leave Boro light moving deeper into the second half of the season.

There is no doubt that this would damage Carrick and his side's attempt to earn a place in the Premier League by the end of the campaign - and hand a massive boost to current pacesetters Leeds.

There is no doubt that the North Yorkshire-based club have plenty of quality in other areas, but the youthful exuberance of Doak would be missed and be difficult to replace.
