Victor Orta is a "big fan" of former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder as Leeds opened talks with him for the vacant manager's role on Sunday, according to The Sun.

The Whites sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday (6 February) but have seen their attempts to replace him hit several walls with Andoni Iraola, Carlos Corberan and Arne Slot all opting against a switch to Elland Road.

And after Schreuder was spotted at Leeds' clash with Manchester United on Sunday (12 February), he is now set for talks with his agent and the club over the manager's role with The Sun reporting that Orta is a fan despite his struggles with Ajax this season.

"An approach could soon be made after caretaker Michael Skubala took charge of Leeds’ consecutive games against United," they wrote (12 February).

"Schreuder has held several jobs since he was Erik ten Hag’s No2 in the Dutch capital five years ago.

"He managed German side Hoffenheim and Belgian outfit Brugge before replacing the now-United boss at Ajax last summer. But Schreuder’s return did not go to plan, winning just 11 of his 20 league matches to leave the champions in fourth place.

"However, Leeds sporting director Victor Orta is still said to be a big fan."

Gamble

Orta was a huge fan of Marcelo Bielsa which obviously worked out brilliantly for Leeds for the most part, but he was also said to be a big fan of Jesse Marsch too.

Marsch managed to save us from relegation but never really took the team forward during his time at the club, despite being backed heavily in the transfer market and making lots of changes.

Leeds United

Orta's judgement is hardly the be all and end all for a manager, but the job he has done at Leeds can't be denied and he has likely earned the trust of the fan base to get these calls right more often than not.

With that said, Schreuder would undoubtedly be a huge gamble to take the job considering a lack of experience in England and his struggles with a top side like Ajax this season.

But after winning the Belgian title with Club Brugge last season, he has proven to be able to do wonders with a team and with the talent we have in the squad if he can make it click there is no doubt that we will survive and push on.
