Adam Pope spots Alfred Schreuder at Elland Road after Leeds United loss v Manchester United
BBC journalist Adam Pope has revealed that he saw Alfred Schreuder at Elland Road after Leeds lost to Manchester United on Sunday (12 February).
The Whites turned in a solid performance but were beaten thanks to late goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, as the managerless side remain just one point above the relegation zone.
It had been reported before the game that former Ajax boss Schreuder would be attending with his agent for talks over the vacant manager role, but Pope was able to confirm that with his own eyes and took to social media to let everyone know.
"Looks like ex-Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder has been here today," he wrote on his personal Twitter account (12 February).
"Just seen him as we were leaving."
Closing in?
It seems inevitable now that the club have moved on from other targets and have started talks with alternative options, with Schreuder being one of them.
Leeds have been strongly linked with Andoni Iraola, Carlos Corberan and Arne Slot but all three have committed themselves to their current clubs publicly in a big mess for the Whites.
But with Schreuder coming to the UK and even Elland Road specifically it would suggest that Victor Orta and co have made their mind up on who the next man will be.
He was sacked by Ajax not long ago for leading them to fifth place in the Eredivisie and the fans had turned on him for his style of play, which is not something Leeds fans will want to hear.
But there is a relegation battle on our hands and if we can get out of that, he has shown with his previous tenure at Club Brugge where he won the title that he is capable of managing at a high level too.
There needs to be a long-term strategy in place as well as looking for someone to fight this season, and if the board are settling on Schreuder then the fans must get behind him for the rest of the season at the very least like we did with Jesse Marsch last year.
