'One day' - Patrick Bamford claims Leeds ace who featured v Millwall will play for England
Patrick Bamford has claimed that Leeds United defender Ben White will feature for England one day.
The Brighton loanee has impressed massively at Elland Road and has picked up a number of plaudits as Marcelo Bielsa’s men currently sit top of the Championship.
It comes in the same season as Kalvin Phillips has been tipped for an England call-up, with Gareth Southgate having been present at Elland Road for the 2-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday this month [Daily Mail].
Taking part in SkyBet’s Who’s Who with Luke Ayling, Bamford’s clue for the defender highlighted how highly the squad think of the young enforcer.
“He’s going to play for England one day, probably,” he said.
With the equally impressive Phillips suspended for the 3-2 win against Millwall on Tuesday, White was made to play a couple of different roles.
The 22-year-old started in his usual defensive role but was pushed up into midfield in the second half to combat a switch of position for the dangerous Jed Wallace.
White was back to his best at Elland Road against the Lions and that was reflective in his stats. The young defender has been way too slow in possession recently, and the fragility in the air has been clear to see in the back four for months now.
The Brighton loanee completed 84 passes on Tuesday, his second-most in his previous 12 appearances [WhoScored]. After conceding from the first set-piece of the night, White helped Leeds tighten up in the air, even against the imposing Matt Smith after he came on.
The 22-year-old is clearly picking up a number of fans, and it has been revealed that Brighton have big plans for his future. He has competition from the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Jake Clarke-Salter and Ezri Konsa at a similar age right now in the England set-up.
