Leeds United meet Angers financial demands for Azzedine Ounahi January transfer
Leeds United’s latest bid for Azzedine Ounahi has met the demands of his current club Angers, but a deal is not done yet according to 90min.
The Whites are interested in signing the Morocco international after his stand-out performances during the Qatar World Cup, as the Atlas Lions finished fourth in their best ever performance.
And a new report (16 January) claims that Jesse Marsch’s side have made a bid worth £22.2m for the 22-year-old, which trumps any rival offers and meets the demands of selling club Angers.
“Sources have confirmed to 90min that the West Yorkshire side have offered €25m for Ounahi, which is not too far off Angers’ asking price which is believed to be around €30m,” they wrote. “However, a deal is far from complete.
“While Leeds’ offer does meet Angers’ demands – a rival Premier League offer Leicester City does not – it still falls short of the Ligue 1 club’s main demand, which is to be allowed to keep the midfielder for the rest of the season.”
Ounahi is a “sensational” talent, as described by Danny Murphy during the World Cup, and anyone that has watched him during that tournament will agree.
His ability to defend well but also bring lots of quality on the ball and break the lines with his dribbling and passing is something that Leeds haven’t had in midfield for a long time.
A partnership of him and Adams would have absolutely everything, with Marc Roca also able to slot in alongside both or either man for rotation.
But after selling Mateusz Klich to DC United, Marsch was clear that he didn’t feel he needed a new midfielder for the second half of the season. Unless that was an oversight or a negotiation tactic, then sealing Ounahi ahead of the summer would be fantastic business.
Get the deal wrapped up, finish off the season and then integrate him into the squad next season. If a deal can be done to bring him in now then even better, but there should be no question if there isn’t that option that the deal should be done anyway.
