'From what I know' - Phil Hay shares details of Bielsa contract at Leeds

The future of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United past this season has been classed as pretty straight forward.

Should the Whites earn promotion to the Premier League, he’ll stay. Another year of disappointment at Elland Road and Leeds fans will not get to see the South American in the dugout past this season.

There was jubilation at the beginning of the campaign when it was announced that Bielsa would stay, and you would find it near impossible to find a fan that hasn’t fallen in love with his football.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay recently opened up on the finer details of Bielsa’s deal at Leeds, claiming it was less straightforward than many may actually believe.

“No, he’ll go if they don’t go up,” he said on The Phil Hay show.

“I think all sides are very open to that. I think all sides think that that’s probably a pretty good idea.

“There was an option in the contract last season for Leeds to retain him. From what I know, I don’t think there’s a specific option in the contract as it stands at the moment for them to retain him at the end of the season.”

The fact that Andrea Radrizzani included a clause in Bielsa’s deal last season proves that Bielsa was willing to give it a couple of cracks in the Championship.

Now that there is no option to extend his contract definitely shows that the future of the Argentine depends on the outcome of this campaign.

Like Hay mentioned, if Bielsa wanted to leave Elland Road he would have already. Surely, if Leeds earn promotion, there will be no doubts that he remains at the club.
