'Scarily good', 'Gonna be massive' – Many Leeds fans buzzing as U23 'beast' dismantles Newcastle

Joe Gelhardt is making waves at Leeds United and he showed exactly why for the Under-23s against Newcastle this afternoon.

The first goal was scored by Liam McCarron but it was made brilliantly by the former Wigan striker.

He used his strength to win the ball back before nutmegging one of the Newcastle players.

Getting the ball back he used his strength again to get into the opposition penalty box before cutting the ball back and setting up McCarron. He completely dismantled Newcastle in devastating fashion.

The short video shows why people at Leeds are so excited about Gelhardt.

Compared to a young Wayne Rooney, he’s got the same stocky build and strength that gives him a massive edge with the ball.

He’s a natural finisher but he’s starting to show that his best position could be in the number 10 spot.

His skills on the ball are fantastic and he’s got the vision and the touch to create as well as score.

We really do believe that he’s going to make the bench of the first team this season.

McCarron scored a second before Gelhardt proved he can finish as well as assist, slotting home from the penalty spot.

That was his fourth goal in seven games and although the Under-23s let the game slip (it ended 4-3 to Newcastle), Gelhardt is the one big takeout.

Here are the best reactions from excited Leeds fans…
