Leeds United fans have been singing the praises of goalkeeper Kiko Casilla after his performance in the 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Last week, the 34-year-old shot-stopper was public enemy number one among Leeds supporters after a disastrous performance in the 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Crawley.
Casilla could have stopped two of the goals he conceded and was fortunate not to cause another when he found himself outside of the penalty area when a Crawley attacker had the ball in the box.
Bielsa launched a passionate defence of Casilla in his press conference ahead of the Brighton game and with Illan Meslier missing again, the ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper was named to start in goals at Elland Road on Saturday.
It was yet another miserable performance by the Whites but Casilla did little wrong throughout the 90 minutes and could not have done anything to stop Neal Maupay’s winning goal for the south coast club.
According to stats by Wyscout, the Spanish veteran made one save on his Premier League debut and also completed three exits, when he came off the line to claim crosses into the box.
Casilla’s performance wasn’t an amazing one but a couple of fans have claimed he was the Whites’ “best player” on Saturday and we find it tough to disagree with that.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Can’t quite believe I’m saying this. But Casilla was our best player today.

Must say, fair play to Casilla, he deserves credit. No chance for the first goal due to the defending but dealt with everything else very well, particularly from corners.

One decent performance by Casilla isn’t enough to change our minds about him.
He’s still someone who was suspended for racism last season and has also been a complete liability in what seems like a majority of performances since the Derby play-off semi-final.
We would like to see Meslier back as soon as possible but at least Casilla’s shown he can stay cool, calm and collected in the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, this BBC pundit has made a claim about Ryan Kent potentially heading to Elland Road.
