‘Why I cancelled Sky’, ‘Nonsense’ – Many Leeds fans attack Sky pundit after comments on rivals
Leeds United fans were watching with detached interest as Brentford came from one goal back to make the play-off final on Wednesday night, beating Swansea 3-1.
It was their last ever game at Griffin Park and they went out on a high after goals from Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Marcondes and Bryan Mbeumo turned the semi-final on its head.
Following the game, Sky Sports pundit Mark McAdam ruffled the feathers of Leeds fans with his verdict on the game.
He said, “Delighted for Brentford, by far the best team to watch in the Championship. That’s how football should be played.”
Leeds fans weren’t going to leave that alone and laid into McAdam, who’s a regular on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk show.
Some did it in the form of memes – our favourite is still Mateusz Klich turning round and shushing – but some pointed to the stats and the huge lead Leeds had at the top of the league.
It’s not just stats though. Leeds played thrilling attacking football consistently. We’d point McAdam towards the Luke Ayling strike and the Tyler Roberts goal against Hull and ask him to reconsider his views.
Unless, of course, he’s just doing it to get the attention from Leeds fans.
If that was his aim, it certainly worked…
However, one Leeds fan made a very good point, saying, “No lads he has a point, Leeds aren’t in the championship anymore…”
Now that’s smart thinking.
And it wasn’t just Leeds fans. One West Ham fan popped up to say, “Better to watch than Leeds? Hilarious.”
Thanks for the solidarity – we’ll see you in the Premier League next season.
