talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has claimed that “Ben White will not be going back to Leeds” and warned Whites fans that life will be very tough in the Premier League if they don’t buy some quality defenders.

White is now “considering his future” according to Sky Sports after a very successful season-long loan at Elland Road.

Leeds fans are desperate to get him back at Leeds but Brighton are keen to hold onto him, and clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham have been following his progress.

Talking on Drive (talkSPORT, Wednesday, 5pm), Durham fired a warning to Leeds fans after revealing what he’d heard about White.

“Ben White will not be going back to Leeds as far as we understand… And if White doesn’t go back to Leeds United they have a massive problem.

“It’s the Premier League, you’re not playing teams at the bottom of the Championship anymore. You’re playing Premier League teams.

“Some people say the difference between the bottom of the Premier League and the top of the Championship is minimal. I completely disagree.

“Leeds are certainly going to need to sign some better defenders.”

Durham makes a good point in his own sensational style.

Cut through the hyperbole and the fact remains that Liam Cooper is currently the only senior centre-back at Leeds.

Leeds have to plan for life without White and that means bringing in at least two Premier League-quality defenders.

Leeds built their Championship-winning season on the league’s best defence. That made up for the shortfalls in front of goal.

However, the Premier League is another level again. There are plenty of teams that this Leeds squad would do well against, but you wouldn’t want to play a centre defence of Cooper and Pascal Struijk against Liverpool or Man City.

Is there a chance of White coming back, despite what Durham says?

It’s always possible and it will come down to what White wants and which teams come in for him.

It’s a critical season for him, with a shot at getting in the England squad ahead of next year’s Euros a real possibility.

For that, he’ll need first-team football, something that he’s guaranteed under Bielsa.
