We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that losing Victor Orta, or anyone in the current board set-up, would “break what Leeds have got”.
Robinson was talking after it was reported that Bundesliga side RB Leipzig are looking to poach Orta from Elland Road.
The two clubs could be heading for a legal dispute over the transfer of Jean-Kevin Augustin. Leeds have sent him back to Leipzig after his loan expired but have an obligation in place to sign him on a permanent deal.
Leeds could now be looking to get out of this and Leipzig sound like they’re ready to go to court.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “The news about Orta has come out of the blue. It’s not often you hear of sporting directors being poached.
“With his signing of Augustin, you’d think they’d question him rather than want him there.
“But seriously, he’s obviously got a good relationship at Leeds with Radrizzani and with Kinnear and Bielsa, and it’s a really good system they’ve got in place.
“If Orta or anyone was going to leave it would break what Leeds have got at board level. Any disruption would really hurt there.
“We’ll have to see what happens.”
Augustin is set to be the big story of the summer for Leeds but not for good reasons.
And it sets RB Leipzig and Leeds on a collision course that’s likely to involve lawyers.
That could really complicate any move that Leipzig make for Orta and we hope it makes it impossible. We want Orta to stay at Elland Road.
