We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Tyler Roberts is an important member of the Leeds squad and must stay with the club.
There has been speculation that Roberts could leave on loan in January after struggling for game time.
Danny Mills tipped him for a loan saying he needs a run of starts to develop as a player.
Roberts has made two starts so far this season but Robinson thinks he will be an important player going forward, in what is set to be a demanding season.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Tyler Roberts is an important member of the Leeds squad and I think they’re going to need him this season.
“I don’t think the squad can handle losing players.
“He might be a bit-part player and he’s not going to start all the time but last season we saw him come on for Patrick Bamford and get some important goals.
“Leeds need to keep hold of him – they need to keep the majority of the squad together unless new faces are going to come in and that looks unlikely.
“This season is going to be the most demanding Premier League yet with what’s going on and I think Roberts will play 15 games this season.
“I don’t think it would be wise to loan him out anywhere and I don’t think it will happen.”
Injuries have been mounting up this season and managers are calling for the return of five subs a game.
If Bamford was injured there’s no other player that can play as a striker if Rodrigo continues starting in the number 10 role.
