We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Leeds are doing exactly the right thing by offering Gjanni Alioski a new contract.
The 28-year-old is in the last eight months of his deal that ends at the end of the current season.
Football Insider reported that talks are planned between Leeds and Alioski, with a new contract on the table.
They claim that Marcelo Bielsa sees Alioski as a “vital” member of the squad going forward.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Alioski has proved to be a very good utility player for Leeds and he’s only 28.
“He can play anywhere down that left-hand side and he seems to have a great attitude. He’s always fit, always ready to play and he makes a real difference when he comes on.
“He’s a vital member of the squad going forward.
“To let any player of his quality get into the final six or eight months of his contract would be silly.
“It’s a very good decision to offer him that contract.”
Alioski might not be a regular starter but he’s a cult hero at Leeds and the fans absolutely love him.
He’s also started three Premier League games this season and played in six of the eight league games.
We agree with Robinson – a new deal is the least that he deserves.
