‘Top player’ – Exclusive: Paul Robinson thrilled by Leeds transfer update

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Leeds United for the business they have done in the transfer window after completing a deal for winger Raphinha on Monday.

Leeds signed Raphinha, 23, in a deal worth £17million from Rennes in what was their final piece of business in the international transfer window.

The Whites can still sign new players from other English clubs so their business might not be over just yet.

But ex-Leeds goalkeeper is still happy with what Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa have achieved after being impressed by the deal for Raphinha.

“He’s another wide player and we seem to be very heavily overloaded in that area but he’s a top player,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News. “He’s very direct, he likes to run with the ball – as does Helder Costa and Jack Harrison.

“There is a lot of competition for places and you bring in Raphinha and you don’t know where he’s going to play.

“But Bielsa’s left himself with a lot of options to play. He always goes with one up front and three in behind and there’s a lot of options of who he can play and where they line up.

“Leeds have bolstered the squad really cleverly.”

Leeds do have plenty of options in the wide areas of the squad but that is something Bielsa likes to have.

Bielsa is partial to an early substitution and the winger position is somewhere he often changes up to try and change the momentum of matches in Leeds’ favour.

Raphinha has great pace and his ability to score and supply assists means he could be a very dangerous player for opposition defences to deal with.

In other Leeds United news, Bruno Fernandes sent a message to Raphinha after he signed for the Whites.
