Sky Sports pundit wants Leeds United to seal new centre-forward transfer with two deals now done
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson has urged Leeds United to sign a new striker now that they have deals done for midfielder Brenden Aaronson and right-back Rasmus Kristensen.
Leeds confirmed Kristensen’s arrival from Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday (8 June) while USA star Aaronson also joined the Whites from the Austrian champions in May.
Patrick Bamford missed almost all of the 2021/22 season, forcing Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch to experiment with Rodrigo, Daniel James, Jack Harrison, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood up front at times throughout the campaign.
None of them really shone in the striker role and that contributed to Leeds’ struggles to score in the Premier League.
Now that the attacking midfield and right-back issues have been sold, Sky Sports pundit Robinson would like to see Marsch and Victor Orta sign at least a back-up for Bamford.
“Leeds have got to get some kind of striker who plays either wide or comes in as a number nine,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“They tried it with Rodrigo and it didn’t work.
“They played almost the whole season without Patrick Bamford and it was so glaringly obvious they knew how long he was out for and didn’t go in the market then for whatever reason.
“They can’t start next season without some cover in that position or somebody who can play in that position when Patrick doesn’t.
“It’s absolutely vital they get a striker.”
Only the three relegated teams scored fewer goals than Leeds in the 2021/22 Premier League.
Raphinha and Jack Harrison were Leeds’ top scorers through the season while Rodrigo managed just six in 34 appearances and James bagged only four times in his 35 outings.
In other Leeds United news, an official approach is set to be made soon for this Elland Road star.
