Sky Sports pundit thrilled as Leeds United eye deal to sign Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro is the kind of player Leeds United need to be looking to sign to improve their team, according to Paul Robinson.
TeamTalk reported on 26 November that Leeds chiefs are a fan of the 28-year-old Portugal international as they see him as an “ideal fit” to solve their left-back issues.
Pascal Struijk has played at left-back almost all season with both Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas injured while the former has struggled to find his form since arriving at Elland Road from Barcelona last year.
Guerreiro has plenty of top-level experience and Robinson sees the former Lorient and Caen left-back as a player who’ll improve the quality of Jesse Marsch’s side in West Yorkshire.
“That’s the type of deal they need to be doing. It’s the type of deal they need to be getting over the line,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“Left-back is of vital importance, especially with someone like that who’s played at Champions League level.
“He’s played week in, week out at a top level and who’ll come in as an improvement.
“He’s the type of player Leeds need to be looking at.”
Guerreiro is set to play for Portugal in the World Cup on Friday afternoon (2 December) when they face South Korea in their final group-stage match.
Guerreiro was born in Paris, France but has played 59 times for Portugal now.
He joined Dortmund in 2016 and has 206 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga club.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are aiming to get this “human wrecking ball” out of Elland Road in January.
