Sky Sports pundit slams 'senseless' Rodrigo after Leeds United forward costs his side
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has slammed Rodrigo for his “senseless” mistake leading to Arsenal’s winner against Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.
Rodrigo, 31, needlessly played a crossfield pass from the right wing to the left-back area, conceding possession to Bukayo Saka to score the only goal of the game.
The Spain international was substituted off by Jesse Marsch at half time with Patrick Bamford replacing him and having far more impact up front.
Robinson cannot understand Rodrigo’s thinking when he attempted that crossfield pass to Pascal Struijk but seems to suggest Saka did very well to anticipate it.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, the Sky Sports pundit said: “It was just senseless – there was no pass on.
“Saka was clearly behind Struijk, it was almost as though he pre-empted the pass before it arrived.
“Leeds were comfortable in possession but it was just one of those moments, a rush of blood. It’s ended up costing his team.”
Rodrigo started the season well with four goals in three games.
However, he’s not scored since Leeds’ last win, which came against Chelsea on 21 August.
Rodrigo has played either up front or in an attacking midfield role for Marsch this season and with Bamford now back from injury and seemingly fully fit, it remains to be seen where he plays – if at all – against Leicester on Thursday.
In other Leeds United news, this “remarkable” Leeds loanee was hailed by a controversial Sky Sports pundit at the weekend.
