Sky Sports pundit reacts as Phil Hay shares Leeds United stance on Che Adams transfer speculation
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson doubts Southampton will sell striker Che Adams to Leeds United amid speculation linking the Scotland international with a move to Elland Road.
The Sun reported on 30 July that Leeds are eyeing a £10million move for Adams, 26, while The Athletic’s Phil Hay has more recently claimed on 14 August that the club isn’t denying their interest in the ex-Sheffield United man.
Adams played 90 minutes against Leeds on Saturday (13 August) as Southampton came from behind to draw 2-2 with the Yorkshire giants at St Mary’s.

Robinson doesn’t think Ralph Hasenhuttl will let the Scotland striker leave but even if a deal was done, the ex-goalkeeper doesn’t believe his addition will improve the squad’s strength that much.
“If you look at their squad depth, they’ve lost Shane Long so I think they’d be reluctant to do any kind of business with Che Adams,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“If you look at Joel Robles, I don’t think they should be looking for cover for cover’s sake. You need to be signing players who’ll challenge for a start.
“If you sign Che Adams, does he start if Bamford’s fit? No, he doesn’t, Patrick plays and he’s comfortable then because if he’s fit, he plays.
“There’s no real direct challenge. It’s not one or the other.

“You need to sign players who are challenging for a starting spot.
“Adams will fall into the category of Robles if he leaves Southampton for Leeds.“
Bamford went off injured on the south coast on Saturday but his injury isn’t thought to be serious.
He missed almost all of last season with Daniel James and Rodrigo mainly filling in for him.
