Phil Hay: Leeds United refuse to dismiss Che Adams transfer speculation as £10m July update emerges
Leeds United have not rubbished speculation linking them with an August move to sign Che Adams from Southampton, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
The Sun reported on 30 July that the Whites are eyeing a “shock” £10million swoop to sign the 26-year-old Scotland centre-forward as they aim to add to Jesse Marsch’s striker options.
Ex-Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay has clearly spoken to his sources at Leeds and it does seem as though there could be some truth in that report.
“The club, at points of the transfer window, have looked at Arnaud Kalimuendo — now bound for Rennes from Paris Saint-Germain — and an existing Rennes player, Martin Terrier,” said Hay on The Athletic website on Sunday morning (14 August).
“They have not categorically dismissed stories linking them to Southampton’s Che Adams either, though all [Jesse] Marsch said at full-time was that the club would continue to take stock.”

Adams was left on the bench for Southampton’s opening day defeat at Tottenham but he started and played all 90 minutes against Leeds, ironically, on Saturday (13 August).
He didn’t have much impact for the Saints but the fact he’s now starting games for Ralph Hassenhuttl suggests that this is a move that won’t happen.
Leeds and Southampton are two sides who are similar in quality and similar in aim.
Both managers are among those being tipped to be sacked first in the Premier League this season and both could be sucked into a relegation battle if they’re not careful.
Would the Saints allow Adams to join a competitive Premier League rival and strengthen them?
Unless it was a permanent deal that saw them pocket a lot of money, they’d be stupid to do that.
While Leeds may hold an interest in the former Birmingham and Sheffield United striker, we doubt that this is something that’ll happen.
