Sky Sports pundit: Leeds United need entire new stadium, not Elland Road redevelopment

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has insisted that Leeds United need to forget about redevelopment and build an entirely new stadium in the near future.

The ex-Whites stopper admitted that Elland Road is looking “old and tired” with the dressing rooms, lounges and boxes all not really up to date.

It comes after the Daily Mail reported that the Whites are pushing ahead with “huge” redevelopment plans to take the current stadium up to 55,000 capacity.

“The club needs a new stadium,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“That stadium has been there a long, long time and it looks old and tired. The dressing rooms, the lounges, the boxes – they’re not up to date. It’s been renovated but the stadium itself, they need a new one.

“Whether it is the original site or next door, they have the land there so they can do it there. Regardless of whether they’re in the Premier League or the Championship, it needs doing.”

Radrizzani and Angus Kinnear do have the secret weapon of the 49ers Enterprises behind them too.

The American consortium have built their own new stadium in the shape of the Levi’s Stadium, so they could certainly look into this should they complete their full takeover before 2024.

Right now, it looks as though all eyes are on the redevelopment though, anything could happen.
