Ross Barkley would be ‘very good signing’ for Leeds United – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to sign Ross Barkley in January but doesn’t feel a deal for the Chelsea midfielder is doable.

According to 90min, the Whites are in the hunt to sign Barkley, 27, ahead of the January transfer window.

It is understood that the 33-times England international is free to leave Stamford Bridge when the transfer window re-opens in just over two months’ time.

Barkley has started to get more game-time under Thomas Tuchel lately and while Robinson would like Leeds to sign the ex-Everton midfielder, he doesn’t feel a deal would be achievable due to the opportunities at Chelsea.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I don’t think they’ll get him. With the way he’s come back into the team at Chelsea, Tuchel’s given everyone there an opportunity.

I think Barkley, [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek are given opportunities to fight for their place.

Chelsea are competing for the Premier League title, for the Champions League and in all of the cup competitions so Barkley’s going to get a lot more game-time at Chelsea.

Someone of that ilk will be a very good signing for Leeds, as shown in recent weeks. They do need strength in depth, they do need strengthening.

From the start of the season, they missed out on signing players to cover in the central midfield. They need at least one new midfielder and cover in the left-back area.

They need to look at it in January and whether that’s a player of Barkley’s quality on loan, it’s got to be somebody and they use the window wisely.

“But I can’t see the Barkley deal happening.”

Barkley has played six times in all competitions for Chelsea this season while Leeds have struggled with injury issues in their midfield.

In other Leeds United news, a superstar player has urged his club’s hierarchy to sign this Elland Road ace next year.
