Robinson fears for Leeds United as Phil Hay shares Carlos Corberan update
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Carlos Corberan is not a big enough name to be the next Leeds United manager, according to Paul Robinson.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported yesterday [16 February] that Corberan is someone who Leeds admire after doing a good job at Huddersfield since leaving Elland Road as the Whites’ Under-23s manager.
However, Robinson feels the fact that Corberan has previously worked at Leeds could work against him and players might not look up to him in the same way they do Bielsa.

Robinson wants the Yorkshire giants to hire a big-name manager instead if Bielsa decides to leave Elland Road at the end of the season.
“No, I don’t think he is [a big enough name],” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“Huddersfield are his first club as a manager and he’s done really well this year. I think they’ve overachieved in the budget they’ve got compared to teams at the top of the Championship.
“But from Leeds’ point of view, they’ve got to bring in a top-class manager. They’ve had a world-class manager for the last four years and they need to replace him with a world-class manager if he is to move on.

“I don’t think Corberan is the answer. Yes, he’s one of Bielsa’s disciples and he will try to continue the Bielsa way. But does he have the same presence and will he have the same authority in the dressing room?
“A lot of those players played with him as a coach and to go from coach to manager is difficult and I’d fear for Leeds if they appointed an ex-coach as a manager.
“I don’t think he’s up to the standard that Leeds would want and they have to go for a world-class manager.
“Anyone who follows Bielsa is going to have a big task so they have to get the right appointment if that’s the case.”

Bielsa will always be a hard act to follow as he’s done such an incredible job at Elland Road by taking Leeds United back to the Premier League.
However, the Argentine has already spent more time at Leeds than he has done at any other club in his managerial career and his deal expires in the summer.
According to Hay, Jesse Marsch and Ernesto Valverde are also on Leeds’ radar.
In other Leeds United news, a player has snubbed talks to sign a new contract at Leeds.
