Raphinha snubs talks over new Leeds United contract, could opt to quit Elland Road

Raphinha could quit Leeds United after snubbing the chance to discuss a new contract, according to Goal.

The football news website reports that Leeds made two approaches to the 25-year-old in January in order to open discussions over a new deal.

However, it is understood that on both occasions, Raphinha failed to respond to his club’s advances.

Goal claims that Raphinha has “put contract talks with Leeds on hold” because he’s waiting to see if he gets offers from top clubs in Europe.

He would reportedly prefer to stay in the Premier League but “he would rather join a team that can regularly compete for silverware”.

Huge blow

Is this it for Raphinha?

We’d be deluded if we didn’t realise his time at Elland Road was always going to be limited because at the end of the day, the ex-Rennes winger is an absolute star of the Premier League.

If Leeds didn’t have Raphinha this season amid all their injury issues, they’d be in the relegation zone and in way more trouble than they currently are.

He’s netted eight times and supplied two assists in 21 Premier League appearances this term – it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

West Ham were widely reported to have made a move for Raphinha in January and while it’s unlikely he’ll go there, it just shows that clubs are taking a liking to the Brazil international.

Raphinha should fetch the Whites a lot of money if he goes and that could fund a major rebuild on the squad.

However, if Marcelo Bielsa stays, would that happen? Or would he continue with Tyler Roberts and Mateusz Klich every week?

In other Leeds United news, a wantaway Leeds player has been spotted being back in the UK after a major development at a club in Europe.
