Pundit thrilled with Kalvin Phillips development at Leeds United in last 48 hours
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson was delighted to see Kalvin Phillips return to the Leeds United starting line-up on Monday night.
Phillips’ last start for the Whites came in early December but he’s now fully recovered from his hamstring injury and was able to make Jesse March’s 11 for the trip to Crystal Palace on 25 April.
Unfortunately, the game was a dull 0-0 draw but seeing Phillips back in action and helping United keep a clean sheet was a major boost in the eyes of ex-goalkeeper Robinson.
“Leeds have missed Phillips hugely,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“He and Patrick Bamford are the two players who Leeds can’t replace, they almost can’t play without them.
“They’ve tried numerous personnel and even tried to change the system but without Phillips and Bamford, they don’t look like the same team.
“I think that’s why they’ve struggled as much as they have this season.
“Defensively, they’ve been very poor and Phillips sits in front of that back-four and offers so much protection.
“But you have to give a lot of credit to Liam Cooper too since his return because he’s come back in with his leadership qualities.
“It’s no surprise Phillips and Cooper have come into the team and they’ve had two clean sheets on the bounce.”
Phillips has missed 18 Premier League games this season and Leeds have won just four of them.
He’s managed to make 15 league appearances for the Whites this term and in those games, the Yorkshire club has lost just three times. Those defeats came at the hands of Liverpool, West Ham and Tottenham.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “wonderful” left-back after he was ousted by his super-rich club.
