Pundit thrilled as Dharmesh Sheth drops John Buckley and Leeds United transfer update
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson is a massive fan of reported Leeds United target John Buckley but feels Blackburn Rovers will not sell the midfielder.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Transfer Show last week [14 January], Dharmesh Sheth reported that Buckley, 22, is on Leeds’ radar as they eye additions to their midfield this month.
Sheth added that Burnley are also interested in the Manchester-born central midfielder.
Ex-Leeds and Blackburn goalkeeper Robinson has been impressed by what he’s seen from Buckley this season.
However, as Rovers are doing so well in the Championship, he doesn’t expect his former club to risk their promotion bid by selling off their best players.
“He’s a top player,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News. “He’s done extremely well at Blackburn this season but Blackburn aren’t going to do any business in this window – they’re the closest they’ve ever been to coming back into the Premier League.
“I don’t think their main aim this season was to get promoted but under the circumstances and the way the players have performed, they’ve found themselves with an absolutely fantastic chance to get back into the Premier League.
“Blackburn will not be doing business and won’t be selling their best player in this window. If they don’t go up, there’s an opportunity to do that at the end of the season.
“Buckley is a top-class midfielder and Leeds need a central midfielder.
“In seven transfer windows, they haven’t signed a central midfielder and for the last four, they’ve been crying out for one.
“As much as Buckley is a good player, I don’t feel that’s a deal for January. Blackburn will be very naive to sell him – or any of their players – this month.”
Buckley has made 27 appearances in all competitions for Blackburn this season.
He’s scored one goal and supplied six assists for the Ewood Park club, who sit third in the Championship table as it stands, level on points with second-placed Bournemouth.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are able to bankroll a major bid to sign this central midfielder.
