Pundit shares what he’s seen of Tyler Adams as Leeds United announce USA international arrival
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson has shown concern over the signing of Tyler Adams with Leeds United seeming as though they’ve landed the midfielder from RB Leipzig to replace Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips, 26, was easily the most important player Leeds had prior to his move to Manchester City this summer with the Whites regularly struggling to perform without him in the side.
Adams, 23, has since come in from Leipzig but Robinson has reservations about whether the USA international can fill the void left by England star Phillips.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s a player that Jesse Marsch knows well but if you’re going to try and replace Phillips, you’ll weaken the team.
“You’ve lost one of your best players and you’ve replaced him with someone not as good as him.
“Yes, he’s a good player and he’s got the ability to play in that position. But the team’s weakened by losing one of the best players – if not the best player – and replacing him with a lesser player.
“You have to give him an opportunity though.

“He’s still at an age where he can develop and get better and the manager might to play a different system.
“From what I’ve seen, he plays a bit higher up. Rather than a sitting midfielder, he plays as one of two in the middle or higher up.
“Obviously, Marsch knows him well and if you added him to the side with Philips, he’d be a good addition. But as a replacement for Phillips, they need more.”
Adams played for Marsch at New York Red Bulls and RB Leipzig, where he started just 12 Bundesliga matches last season.
In other Leeds United news, this Elland Road star has told Leeds he refuses to take part in pre-season preparations.
