Points deduction verdict emerges at Leeds United ahead of possible punishment
Former Leeds United midfielder David Norris has shared his experiences of playing under points deductions, following fears of repercussions for the club if they do not meet PSR guidelines in time.
Leeds have until the end of this month to raise enough money from player sales – potentially eased by the club’s recent Red Bull partnership – to meet the rules which have plagued other English clubs in recent months.
Everton and Nottingham Forest were high-profile victims of points deductions in 2023-24 for breaching the regulations, and Norris – who played under a deduction at Portsmouth shortly before joining Leeds in 2012 – has delivered his take.
“On the pitch [with deductions], I think it’s forgotten about,” Norris exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“We were well aware of it when it happened to us at Portsmouth – it was in our faces every day, but it didn’t affect us once we were on the pitch.
“It maybe even galvanised us that little bit more with that underdog mentality – it would become a bit like ‘us v them’, and it brought all the players and staff together.”
Could Leeds United really be docked points?
It seems sensationalised to talk about it right now with just under three weeks left of the month and plenty of opportunities for Leeds United to recoup funds on surplus players, but it’s scary how quickly events can escalate.
Former Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has pointed out this fact, with Sheffield United starting next season in the Championship on minus two points.
Robinson said: “Leeds United will have to sell players – and they will.”
That statement has been clear as day ever since the play-off heartbreak last month and even to an extent before that day at Wembley, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville almost certain to depart.

Farke has his work cut out to cut ties with numerous unwanted returning loanees as well, which could prove difficult depending on the players’ salary packages and contract lengths.
It remains to be seen what can be done and how much can be raised to extinguish talk of PSR consequences for the foreseeable future at Elland Road.
