Paul Robinson wowed by Tyler Roberts, says he’s best No 9 for Leeds United amid Patrick Bamford absence
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Tyler Roberts had his best performance in a Leeds United shirt in the 2-2 draw with Brentford on Sunday, according to Paul Robinson.
Roberts, 22, has found himself on the end of a lot of criticism from Leeds fans during recent seasons but was handed his second consecutive start up front by Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road on Sunday as he scored against the Bees.
During Patrick Bamford’s injury absence, Bielsa has experimented with numerous striker options but Robinson feels Wales international Roberts has been the best.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’s the first time he’s taking chances and he looks like a player with confidence for the first time in a while.
“With Patrick Bamford out, he’s been the best number nine they’ve had. They’ve tried Rodrigo there, they’ve tried Daniel James there, they’ve tried Jack Harrison there but I think Roberts has been the best solution.
“He’s not the solution, but I think he’s been the best solution.
“He’s grown from a little bit of confidence and I think his performance against Brentford was his best in a Leeds shirt.”

Robinson’s tune about Roberts has changed quite dramatically in the last couple of months with the ex-Leeds shot-stopper telling MOT Leeds News in September that Joe Gelhardt should be playing ahead of the Welsh forward.
Earlier this month, Robinson said Roberts isn’t someone he views as a regular starter for the Whites.
Roberts has played in every single match for Leeds in all competitions this season, playing mainly as a substitute.
He’s started three times in the Premier League, with two of those coming versus Crystal Palace and Brentford.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has dropped a Marcelo Bielsa exit verdict amid recent speculation.
