Leeds United fans frustrated by Tyler Roberts - Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Tyler Roberts should not be a regular starter for Leeds United, according to Paul Robinson.
Roberts, 22, started for just the second time in the Premier League this season as Leeds beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
On Saturday, he impressed after coming off the bench in the goalless draw at Brighton and was seemingly rewarded for that display with a spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting line-up against Palace.
However, Robinson doesn’t feel as though Roberts is good enough to be a mainstay of Bielsa’s side, adding that the Wales international is someone who annoys fans with his inability to finish chances.
“[Roberts] had an impact on the game [against Brighton on Saturday0 but he’s just frustrating,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“He shows in flashes what he can do and I think he frustrates a lot of Leeds fans with his end product.
“He’s very active when he’s on the field and he shows in drips and drabs what he can do but he’s frustrating a lot of fans.
“As I’ve said before, I don’t think Roberts is a regular starter.“
Roberts is the most-used substitute in the Premier League this season and has played in all of Leeds’ matches across all competitions.
Despite playing 635 minutes in total, he’s failed to be directly involved in a goal even though he usually plays in an advanced forward role.
Once Patrick Bamford is back from injury, it’s likely that Roberts will drop back down the pecking order, where Joe Gelhardt should really be ahead of him anyway.
Roberts is one of the longest-serving senior players at Elland Road and will celebrate four years with the Yorkshire club in January.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has dropped a Marcelo Bielsa exit verdict amid recent speculation.
