Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to sign Daniel James amid Man United recruitment drive
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to sign Daniel James from Manchester United this summer amid fresh speculation linking him with a move to Elland Road.
Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson feels as though a new opportunity could arise for Bielsa this summer though with Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £72.9million [Manchester Evening News].
James started just 11 of Man United’s 38 Premier League fixtures last term and a move to Elland Road could be exactly what the forward needs, especially if Helder Costa moves on, according to Robinson.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, the ex-goalkeeper said: “He’s done well at Manchester United when he’s been given an opportunity.
“But he’s obviously a player Leeds really like because we all know how close they came to signing him. You don’t have a player who was at the stadium holding the shirt only 18 months ago if you don’t want them. If you sign for Man United and improve, your interest isn’t going to go away.
“Whether it’s a deal they can pull off or not is yet to be seen but Man United seem to be going heavy this transfer window, they’re signing some top players.
“I’m not saying Daniel James isn’t a top player but if he wants to play more regularly and he’d get more opportunities a lot more at Leeds.
“He is a player, should Helder Costa move on, that would strengthen the squad. He’s a player I’d like to see come in.”
Costa, 27, has been linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer despite only joining last year in a £16million deal from Wolves.
Hay reported on The Athletic website recently that Valencia are keen on Costa.
In other Leeds United news, this winger has been spotted at another Yorkshire club ahead of a potential exit.
