Paul Robinson stunned by Leeds star Kalvin Phillips, left Spurs shocked
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Paul Robinson was stunned by the performance of Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips in the 2-1 defeat against Spurs.
The England international was asked to play in defence to shackle Harry Kane by Marcelo Bielsa, something he did perfectly.
Robinson insisted that Spurs were caught by surprise over the positioning of Phillips, and couldn’t handle him.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson was in awe of the Yorkshire Pirlo’s performance in the capital.
“I thought he was outstanding. It just shows how adaptable he really is, I think Bielsa played to a massive strength, he caught Spurs by surprise.
“He’s so clever at reading the game, he tackles perfectly. I just thought he had an excellent game.”
It all came undone in the second half when Bielsa decided to change his tactics and start messing around with what had worked so well in the opening 45 minutes.
Leeds lost all composure, and moving Phillips further forward meant no one at the back got hold of the ball and springboarded attacks.
The Yorkshire Pirlo was phenomenal throughout, and it gives you the fear that he may look to move on when he looks at what is coming off the bench in huge games such as this.
Leeds’ squad is threadbare right now, and the frustration was clear to see from the likes of Phillips and Diego Llorente at the lack of quality on show after changes were made.
Hopefully, the Whites can make some moves in January and match that quality that is in this squad in certain areas – it needs to be done.
