Paul Robinson reacts as Leeds enter talks to sign unnamed centre-mid
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson believes Leeds United need to add to their central midfield options this summer but as it stands, it’s not as important as signing a new goalkeeper.
After signing left-back Junior Firpo from Barcelona, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth reported that Victor Orta had turned his attention towards signing a new midfielder.
It is understood that Leeds’ director of football is in talks to sign an unnamed player and it is said that he’s the Yorkshire club’s “top target” in the midfield.
However, after seeing Kiko Casilla leave to join Elche on loan, Robinson feels Orta needs to sign a new second-choice goalkeeper before anyone else.
“Signing a goalkeeper is a huge priority for the club but it’s the time of the summer now where the Euros have finished where we’ll see a lot of transfer activity,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“A new central midfielder is a priority but it’s not the top priority – the priority is to fill the position they need and a goalkeeper is one of them. You can’t go into the season with just a number one.”
According to Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen, Leeds have tabled a bid to sign Valerenga goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson.
He’s only 20-years-old but has been Valerenga’s number one goalkeeper for a couple of years in the Norwegian top-flight.
It seems as though he’s going to be Leeds’ second-choice goalkeeper next term if all goes well in that pursuit.
And if he does arrive, Orta’s talks for a new midfielder are bound to heat up.
