Paul Robinson reacts as Adam Forshaw plays in Leeds United win v Crewe
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Adam Forshaw is “like a new signing” for Leeds United after the midfielder made his first senior appearance in almost two years on Tuesday night.
Marcelo Bielsa started Forshaw, 29, in the heart of his midfield for the Carabao Cup tie against Crewe at Elland Road.
The ex-Middlesbrough midfielder went on to complete 90 minutes as the Whites won 3-0 and progress to the next round of the competition.
Robinson wanted Forshaw to play against Everton on Saturday but was still delighted to see him star against Crewe in the Carabao Cup.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’s like a new signing.
“I was at the Everton game at Elland Road and I was willing him to come off the bench then. But obviously he played last night and got some minutes under his belt.
“He’s had his problems over the last two years but he’ll come into the squad, be around the squad and maybe get into the starting line-up.
“It’ll be like a new signing for the manager to have him around.”
Not many people would have expected Forshaw to work his way back into Bielsa’s plans but he deserves massive credit for recovering from his injury hell and getting back up to match fitness.
It remains to be seen what role Forshaw will play in the Premier League this season for Bielsa and whether the 29-year-old will play a back-up role for Kalvin Phillips or be used more regularly in the middle of the park.
Forshaw’s return is no doubt a massive boost and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in the league as the season progresses.
