Paul Robinson predicts Leeds United player-plus-cash deal on the cards for Huddersfield ace O’Brien

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes Leeds United could sweeten their bid for Lewis O’Brien by offering Huddersfield a player in exchange.

O’Brien, 22, has been linked with a move to Elland Road for a number of weeks after the Whites turned their attention to the midfielder when Conor Gallagher opted to join to Crystal Palace [The Athletic].

The Telegraph has reported that Leeds are hoping a deal worth £7million plus add-ons can be agreed with Huddersfield.

However, the Terriers have remained resolute in their stance and little progress has been made.

Robinson believes that if a fringe player is offered to the Championship club, as well as the cash, they could be more receptive to a deal.

When asked if Robbie Gotts could be included in the deal to convince Huddersfield to sell O’Brien, Robinson told MOT Leeds News: “Yes, potentially. I think there is an option to do that.

There are players on the fringes who have been in and around the first-team squad who haven’t been given an opportunity.

O’Brien is a player Leeds have looked at for a long time so whether it’s a cash or player-plus-cash deal, I think it’s one we will see done before the window closes.”

Gotts, 21, spent last season on loan at Lincoln in League One and Salford in League Two.

He played for Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan when he was in charge of Leeds’ Under-23s and the Yorkshire Evening Post has mooted the possibility of the versatile midfielder moving on before the end of the summer transfer window.
